AI for AI for Science
Abstract:
This year’s Nobel Prize for Physics and Chemistry were awarded to AI related work, which symbolizes the increasing impact of "AI for Science". On the other hand, leading AI companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google are focused more on "AI for AI”, where they project that the virtuous cycle of AIs that develop the next generation of AIs will far outpace human efforts in the coming years. It is crucial for any researcher in “AI for Science” to understand the implications of the “AI for AI” efforts at these leading AI companies. In this talk I will discuss efforts in “AI for Science” that make sense, and ones that do not.
