The 4th RIKEN R-CCS HPC Youth Workshop was held at the RIKEN Center for Computational Science from Tuesday, February 18 to Thursday, February 20, 2020. Started in FY 2016, this workshop gives students and young researchers in computational science and technology an opportunity to meet and learn from one another.

The workshop began with participants introducing themselves, followed by a poster session about their own research. The second day featured a Senior Talk from R-CCS Team Leader, Sato Kento. In the afternoon, participants divided into small groups to discuss and decide on a theme to present the following day. Each group was joined by two R-CCS researchers who acted as mentors. Despite the challenge of being unfamiliar with the terms of research fields other than their own, participants were somehow able to understand each other and communicate effectively in English in the group discussion.

Final presentation material:

At the wrap-up meeting on the final day, each group gave a presentation. Some groups presented the members’ individual research in a systematic manner and some group presented a new research proposal. Comments from this year’s participants included, "It was a good opportunity to learn about different research fields," "I had a great time and want to participate in this event again," "It was difficult to find common topics to talk about with people from different research fields," and "I wish we had more time for discussion."
