Dr. Mohamed WAHIB (High Performance Artificial Intelligence Systems Research Team, R-CCS) has won a 2022 R&D 100 Award for their work entitled “Flash-X, a Multiphysics Simulation Software.”
The R&D Awards have served as the most prestigious innovation award program for the past 60 years, honoring great R&D pioneers and their revolutionary ideas in science and technology. This renowned worldwide science and innovation competition, celebrating its 60th year, received thousands of entries from a dozen different countries and regions. This year’s esteemed judging panel included nearly 50 well-respected industry professionals from across the world.
Flash-X is a highly composable multiphysics software system that can be used to simulate physical phenomena in several scientific domains. Flash-X relies on abstractions and asynchronous communications for performance portability across a range of increasingly heterogeneous hardware platforms. Flash-X has been an enabler of scientific advancements in a wide range of simluation domains raning from High-Energy Density Physics (HEDP) and Supernovae to Co-Design for Exascale.
Dr. Wahib says, "Flash-X is currently being further expanded to be a valuable tool for more scientists and engineers whose simulations could benefit from composable multiphysics."
