Four RIKEN-Supported Teams Win Awards at the 2025 APAC HPC-AI Competition
JapaneseFour student teams supported by RIKEN earned awards across multiple categories at the 2025 APAC HPC-AI Competition, an international contest organized by the HPC-AI Advisory Council. The results were announced on November 17, 2025.
Forty-four teams across the Asia-Pacific region participated this year, tackling performance optimization tasks for NWChem, an open-source software for high-performance computational chemistry, and DeepSeek-R1, an open-source large language model.
The RIKEN-supported award-winning teams are:
- Merit Award (Overall Category)
- T0M0K4ZU w/ RIKEN (Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Tokyo University of Science, Shibaura Institute of Technology)
- Best HPC Performance
- Moralistars w/ RIKEN (Tokyo Metropolitan College of Industrial Technology)
- Excellent HPC Performance
- SQUID w/ RIKEN (The University of Osaka)
- Excellent AI Performance
- Kisarazu Big Branch team w/ RIKEN (National Institute of Technology, Kisarazu College)
The awards ceremony will be held during SCA/HPCAsia 2026 in Osaka on January 28, 2026.
RIKEN launched its support program for international student competitions for the first time this year, aiming to expand opportunities for students in Japan to gain global experience and develop advanced computational skills. Similar support will be provided for the 2026 APAC HPC-AI Competition, including assistance for students attending the Opening Workshop at SCA/HPCAsia 2026.
