The RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS) looks for teams which compete in the 2025 APAC HPC-AI Competition with RIKEN’s support. This project targets undergraduate students, graduate students, and technical college students “KOSEN” who are enrolled in Japanese institutes.

The APAC HPC-AI Competition is an international competition held every year and organized by the HPC-AI Advisory Council, National Supercomputing Centre (NSCC) Singapore and National Computational Infrastructure (NCI) Australia. In this competition, students compete in skill of High-performance computing (HPC) and AI.

We will explain the details at the informational meeting scheduled for November 5. Please check the following information about the meeting and register for it if you would like to attend it.

We are looking for passionate undergraduate students, graduate students, and KOSEN students who take on the world with RIKEN.

Schedule From December, 2024 to February, 2026
A tentative main schedule is as follows:
  • Early December, 2024: Determination of teams with RIKEN support
  • Between early and mid- December, 2024: kickoff meeting (location: R-CCS)
  • March 10-13, 2025: participation in the 8th APAC HPC-AI Competition Opening Workshop at SupercomputingAsia 2025 (SCA25) (location: Singapore)
  • Mid- May, 2025: application deadline for the APAC HPC-AI Competition
  • From late May to beginning of November, 2025: competition and presentation interview
  • Between mid- August and early September, 2025: meeting about competition’s assignment (location: R-CCS)
  • November, 2025: announcement of final result
  • January 26-29, 2026: the award ceremony at SCA2026 (location: Osaka)
Eligibility undergraduate students, graduate students in the field of HPC, and technical college students “KOSEN” (above 4th year or advanced course)
  • Applicants must meet any of the requirements listed above.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in Japanese institutes.

Notes
  • In principle, we accept applications on a team (students and coaches who are staffs like supervisors).
  • If it is difficult to find coaches, we can consider individual applications from students.
  • For applications on a team, please include at least one student of Japanese nationality.
  • For applications on a team and if you would like to add members after the deadline, please contact us. However, please kindly note that we might not be able to provide support for their business travel expenses and other costs to SCA2025 and R-CCS.
  • In the case of a large number of applicants or teams, we might screen application documents.
  • We will provide support for registration fees, travel expenses and accommodation expenses to SCA2025 and SCA2026, and travel expenses to R-CCS for students. However, support for accommodation expenses during business trips to SCA2026 and R-CCS will be provided for students who need accommodation.
  • Any events not listed with a specific location will be held online in principle.
