Call for proposals for the name of the post-K
The RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS) is calling for proposals for the name of the successor to the K computer (often referred to as the post-K computer), which has been under development with the target to start providing shared use service around the year 2021.
The following should be considered when proposing names for the supercomputer.

- The name should preferably express the idea that RIKEN is a world-class research institute operating a state-of-the–art supercomputer.
- The name should be attractive not only to Japanese speakers but to people around the world.
Guidelines for Submission
1.Qualifications
Anyone may make a proposal. Anyone may submit as many entries as desired. There is no limit on the number of entries that can be made by one person.
2.Application period
From February 15 to April 8, 2019 at 5 pm
(The results will be announced by the end of May 2019.)

4.Items to be included in the application
- The name proposed for the new supercomputer (Names in either Roman alphabet or Japanese writing (kanji/kana) are acceptable.)
Note: If the proposed name is written in Japanese, it will be transliterated into Roman alphabet for use internationally. When submitting a name in Japanese, spelling in Roman alphabet may be included. - For submissions in Japanese, kana indicating the pronunciation of kanji
- Explanation of the name (up to about 100 Japanese characters and/or 30 words in English)
- Applicant’s name
- Prefecture where the applicant lives (for those outside of Japan, the country of residence)
- Applicant’s email address
5.Notes
- Names that are registered trademarks are not acceptable.
- The name(s) of successful applicant(s) and their prefecture/country of residence will be published.
- Submissions under pseudonyms or false names are not acceptable.
- All rights related to the name selected in this call will be transferred to RIKEN free of charge.
- All applications will be strictly managed by RIKEN in accordance with its Personal Information Protection Regulations and will be used only for selection purposes. Personal information included in the applications will not be disclosed, transferred, or lent to third parties without justifiable reason.
- A commemorative gift will be given to the person who submits the successful proposal. (If more than one person has suggested the same chosen name, the recipient of the gift will be selected by a lottery.)
- The number of entries for a specific name will not affect the outcome of the selection.
- Upon submission, the applicant is deemed to have read and accepted the terms of these guidelines.

About the post-K computer
- The post-K computer is expected to contribute to Japan's growth and to produce world-leading results by exploring science and solving various societal issues that are becoming more complicated. It will be one of the world's most advanced supercomputers in terms of computational performance, potential for producing epoch-making results, usability for users, and energy efficiency.
- It will be used not only for computer simulations but also for cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence (deep learning) and Big Data.
- The goal is to achieve the application performance up to 100 times that of the K computer.
- It is equipped with the ARM instruction set, which is widely used in smart phones, etc. throughout the world. The post-K computer will push forward the field of semiconductor and IT technology in the world.
