RIKEN R-CCS offers an internship program targeting graduate students residing in Japan, which is outlined as follows.

(Please note that this is a separate program from 2018 RIKEN AICS International HPC Computational Science Internship which was closed for applications in March)

Objective
This internship program is a project fostering researchers dedicated to HPC (High Performance Computer) technology and computational science with the aim to orient interns to R&D in leading-edge computational science by providing them with an opportunity to work in R-CCS research teams for a better understanding of computational science technology.

Eligibility

Graduate students in Japan who meet one of the following criteria:

  • Applicants must belong to universities which recognize internship at RIKEN on their module system.
  • Applicants must belong to universities whose head or the delegated person can issue a formal letter of request on behalf of applicants.

Internship Details

Internship period Applicants and hosting research teams may set appropriate periods by mutual agreement for duration for 2 weeks to 1 month between August 1 and September 30, 2018.
Screening Documentary screening will be carried out after the deadline for this call.
Program details Details are subject to guidelines of hosting research team.
Working hours Interns must work on every RIKEN working day during internship period.
Daily schedule: 9:00 to 17:20 (Lunch break: 12:00 to 12:50)

Note: The submitted documents are strictly controlled based on RIKEN Personal Information Protection Regulations and used only for the purpose of screening. Any private information in applications is not disclosed to third parties, either intentionally or through negligence. Application documents will not be returned.
Expenses and allowance
  1. Commuting expenses: Daily actual commuting fares for the number of working days are compensated on a monthly basis up to a maximum of 45,000 yen per month.
  2. Lodging expenses: If required during internship, we will provide our arranged accommodation, or If you would like to select the hotel, we can pay actual expenses are compensated up to a maximum of 3,500 yen per day.
  3. Travel expenses: If you join internship from a distant location and need hotel accommodation, actual travel expenses between intern’s university and location of the hosting research team are compensated for one round trip only.
  4. Internship allowance: 3,000 yen per day for those who need lodging, 1,000 yen per day for those who commute from their own homes.
