Title:
Energy Efficiency and Sustainability in HPC
Abstract:
The demand for power in computing and HPC is large and continues to grow. The need for energy efficient HPC has largely been recognized and major improvements have been seen in the past decade. There are still opportunities for further improvements in energy efficiency for HPC. The focus on power, energy and efficiency can and should now be expanded to include a focus on a broader agenda that includes sustainability. Things like renewable energy, re-use and water conservation are some examples. This talk will focus on an open community effort to improve both energy efficiency and sustainability for HPC. The Energy Efficient High Performance Computing Working Group EE HPC WG) has more than 1200 members across 35+ countries around the globe, mostly in the United States, Europe and Japan. There are many opportunities to network and collaborate with colleagues from supercomputing centers, the vendor community and academe. This talk will describe the EE HPC WG and current team activities. There will be time for discussion and interaction will be encouraged.
