Abstract

As the HPC community has finally achieved exascale, we have commenced our journey towards beyond, with projects such as FugakuNEXT. However, due to the perceived difficulties of the endeavor, there are multitudes of proposals regarding technological pathways to move forward. Some of such are promising, but unfortunately, some are driven by rather naïve extrapolation from other branches of computing such as embedded devices, without considerations for HPC specifics such as scaling laws. This results in questionable claims such as "Supercomputers will become a plethora of domain specific heterogeneous accelerators beyond exascale". The talk will stress the importance of holistic and quantitative assessment of the HPC compute space such that, such claims could be debunked as 'myths'.
