Abstract
Lecturer: Prof. Juinn-Wei Chen (National Taiwan University)
A pedagogical Introduction to X. Ji’s Large Momentum Effective Theory (LaMET) will be presented to an audience with basic knowledge of QCD and lattice QCD in four lectures:
Lecture 1: A Family of Parton Distributions slides (pdf file)
We will introduce a family of parton distributions, including Partition Distribution Functions (PDFs), Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs), Transverse Momentum Distributions (TMDs), and Wigner Functions. Their importance and their determinations through theories and experiments will be discussed. The emergence of PDFs from deep inelastic lepton-hadron scattering through OPE will be derived as an example.
Lecture 2: Large Momentum Effective Theory (LaMET) slides (pdf file)
The main idea that leads to LaMET will be introduced. The application of LaMET to the PDF calculation exhibits a factorization theorem that includes matching and power corrections. Power corrections will be discussed in this lecture.
Lecture 3: Matching Coefficients in LaMET slides (pdf file)
The matching coefficient computations in the factorization theorem of LaMET will be introduced. This is a more technical but critical part of LaMET. I will work out the simplest example in one-loop matching and then introduce relevant topics of non-perturbative renormalization, renormalon ambiguity, and resummations that are useful in matching calculations.
Lecture 4: From PDFs to GPDs and TMDs slides (pdf file)
Issues of lattice QCD computations to PDFs will be discussed. We will also briefly mention how to apply LaMET to the computations of GPDs and TMDs.
