JHPC-quantum Adopts QURI SDK Enterprise from QunaSys
JapaneseThe RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS) has adopted and begun operating QURI SDK Enterprise, a quantum software development kit provided by QunaSys Inc., a quantum software developer, under the NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization)-commissioned project "Research and Development of a Quantum-Supercomputer Hybrid Platform for the Exploration of Uncharted Computable Capabilities" (the "JHPC-quantum Project") [1] .
The project aims to research and develop system software that links quantum computers with supercomputers (HPC), use it to build a quantum-HPC hybrid platform, and further construct quantum-HPC hybrid applications in order to expand the computable domain.
QURI SDK Enterprise provides a library of quantum-HPC hybrid algorithms, including QSCI (Quantum Selected Configuration Interaction) and ADAPT-QSCI, and enables seamless access to quantum computers from the compute and pre/post-processing nodes of the supercomputer Fugaku [2] and the JHPC-quantum GPU supercomputer ROQUO [3]. It is expected to further accelerate research and development of quantum-HPC hybrid applications.

Mitsuhisa Sato,
Division Director of Quantum-HPC Hybrid Platform Division, RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS)
The JHPC-quantum Test User Program, Note 1) which the project is also running, has likewise shown strong demand for QURI SDK Enterprise, which is why we decided to adopt it this time. We hope this will be an opportunity to deepen our collaboration with QunaSys within the project and to make the project's achievements even greater.
- Note 1: This program solicits proposals to actually use the hybrid platform and to research and develop hybrid applications. It aims to obtain feedback on the hybrid platform, which is still under development, while also discovering promising hybrid applications and promoting their practical application. In fiscal year 2025, 21 proposals were selected.

CEO, QunaSys Inc.
QSCI is a quantum-HPC hybrid algorithm developed by QunaSys. It is now one of the most widely used approaches to quantum-HPC hybrid computing worldwide, and has led to a wide range of research advances, including work to optimize the algorithm for Fugaku and other supercomputers. For quantum computing to deliver practical value, it is essential that these advances be readily accessible to all users, including those in industry. QURI SDK Enterprise brings together algorithms such as QSCI with an easy-to-use environment that lets anyone work across Fugaku, ROQUO, and quantum computers. We see this deployment as an opportunity to deepen our collaboration with RIKEN and further accelerate the research and development of quantum-HPC hybrid applications.
Supplementary Notes
- [1] JHPC-quantum Project: The common name for the project "Research and Development of Quantum-Supercomputers Hybrid Platform for Exploration of Uncharted Computable Capabilities." As a project commissioned by NEDO, it conducts research and development of the system software and platform for the integrated use of quantum computers and supercomputers.
- [2] Supercomputer Fugaku: A Japanese supercomputer jointly developed by RIKEN and Fujitsu. It achieved first place in the world rankings in 2020. Aimed at contributing to Japan’s growth and generating world-leading results by addressing social and scientific challenges in the 2020s, it was launched for shared use in March 2021 as a world-class supercomputer excelling in overall capabilities, including power efficiency, computational performance, user-friendliness, groundbreaking results, and acceleration of big data and AI. Today, Fugaku is utilized as an essential high-performance computing infrastructure for realizing Japan’s vision of Society 5.0.
- [3] JHPC-quantum GPU Supercomputer "ROQUO": A new computing infrastructure for the quantum-HPC Hybrid Platform, introduced as part of the JHPC-quantum Project. It consists of 135 compute nodes equipped with "NVIDIA GB200 NVL4" (540 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs in total).
Research Funding
This project is carried out with funding from NEDO (the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) under the commissioned project "Research and Development of Quantum-Supercomputers Hybrid Platform for Exploration of Uncharted Computable Capabilities" (Project Leader: Mitsuhisa Sato), part of the "Project for Research and Development of Enhanced Infrastructures for Post 5G Information and Communications Systems (JPNP20017)."
