On March 31, 2026, the 11th meeting of the Japan-France Joint Committee on Cooperation in Science and Technology was held in Tokyo in conjunction with the official visit to Japan by French President Emmanuel Macron.

From the RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS), Dr. Tamiya Onodera, Deputy Director of the Quantum–HPC Hybrid Platform Division, and Dr. Kento Sato, Team Principal of the High Performance Big Data Research Team, participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, discussions were held on strategic areas of cooperation between Japan and France, including quantum technologies and AI. In this context, Dr. Onodera presented ongoing Japan–France collaboration under the CEA–RIKEN partnership, with a particular focus on quantum–HPC research. He outlined recent progress in integrating quantum computing with high performance computing and the prospects for future collaboration.

R-CCS will continue to promote international research collaboration in advanced computational science, with quantum–HPC integration as one of its key focus areas.
