The RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS) looks for teams which compete in the 2026 APAC HPC-AI Competition with RIKEN’s support. This project targets undergraduate students, graduate students, and National Institute of Technology (KOSEN) students who are enrolled in Japanese institutes.

The APAC HPC-AI Competition is an international competition held every year and organized by the HPC-AI Advisory Council. In this competition, students compete in skill of High-performance computing (HPC) and AI.

We are looking for passionate undergraduate students, graduate students, and KOSEN students who take on the world with RIKEN.

Schedule From April, 2026 to March, 2027
A tentative main schedule is as follows:
  • Late March, 2026: Determination of teams with RIKEN support
  • Between early and mid- May, 2026: kickoff meeting (location: R-CCS)
  • Mid- May, 2026: application deadline for the APAC HPC-AI Competition
  • From June to October, 2026: competition and presentation interview
  • November, 2026: announcement of final result
  • Late February, 2027: the award ceremony at SCA2027 (location: Singapore)
Eligibility undergraduate students, graduate students in the field of HPC, and National Instituteof Technology (KOSEN) students (above 4th year or advanced course)
  • Applicants must meet any of the requirements listed above. Applicants must be enrolled in Japanese institutes.

Notes
  • In principle, we accept applications on a team (students and coaches who are staffs like supervisors).
  • For applications on a team, please include at least one student of Japanese nationality.
  • For applications on a team and if you would like to add members after the deadline, please contact us. However, please kindly note that we might not be able to provide support for their business travel expenses and other costs to SCA2027 and R-CCS.
  • In the case of a large number of applications, we might screen application documents.
  • We will provide support for registration fees, travel expenses and accommodation expenses to SCA2027, and travel expenses to R-CCS for students. However, support for accommodation expenses during business trips to SCA2027 and R-CCS will be provided for students who need accommodation.
  • Any events not listed with a specific location will be held online in principle.
